Portuguese Laurel Hedge, also known as Prunus lusitanica is a popular evergreen hedging species. It has glossy dark green pointed foliage on red stems and because of its dense habit, Prunus lusitanica makes the ideal choice for a privacy screen or sound barrier. This hardy evergreen is one of the most popular hedging species in the UK and is part of our top 10.

Suitable for hedge pruning with secateurs and should be done twice a year. First in March/April and again in late September/early October.

A hard prune in March will make Laurel shoot and thicken up in the spring and is the best time to prune woody established plants.

Its best not to use hedge trimmers with large leafed plants because of the damage caused to the leaves.
