Blackthorn Hedge - Prunus spinosa

Blackthorn hedging is much like Hawthorn as it is fast growing and tolerant of wet soils. In spring, it produces masses of white flowers followed by sloe berries in autumn. Blackthorn hedging can be used as a single species hedge but works better as part of a traditional mixed hedge.

Its best to plant Bare Root hedging in a double staggered row, and Pot Grown / Rootballed hedging in a single row.

Plant Spacing:
Bare Root. When planting smaller (60cm and below) plants you will need 6 plants per metre, and for the medium size (60cm and above) you will need 5 per metre, and for the larger size (90cm and above) plants you will need 4.5 per meter.

Pot Grown / Root Balled. When planting smaller (80cm and below) plants you will need 5 plants per metre, and for the medium size (80cm and above) you will need 4 per metre, and for the larger size (120cm and above) plants you will need 3 to 3.5 per meter.
