Blackthorn hedge plants, also known as Prunus spinosa, is a popular thorny, deciduous hedging species that provides seasonal interest, with pure white flowers in the spring, followed by attractive green foliage that turns yellow in the autumn. Blackthorn produces sloes in the autumn that are a hit with birds and other wildlife. Prunus spinosa works very well as part of a species rich, mixed native hedge.
